Chairman Choi Jai-chul of Climate Change Foundation attended the 5th Blue Planet Future Festival in Busan on September 5 at the Busan Cinema Center, where he discussed the realities of the climate crisis and ways to address it.
Held under the theme “Back to Earth, Earth and Us,” this year’s festival explored how climate change is reshaping our lives and the planet through a range of films and programs, bringing the climate crisis closer to everyday life.
Climate Change Foundation has also been working with Global Networks for Blue Planet, the organizer of the festival, since signing an MOU in May to raise public awareness of the climate crisis and expand citizen engagement through cultural platforms.
Chairman Choi joined Professor Baek Min Kim of the Department of Environmental Atmospheric Sciences at Pukyong National University and Professor Jun-Yi Lee of the Climate Science Research Institute at Pusan National University at the Blue Planet Conference, following a screening of We Must Survive.
Drawing on cases depicted in the film, they discussed how the climate crisis is affecting people and communities, as well as scientific and practical approaches to addressing it.
Directed by Tomas Krupa, We Must Survive tells the stories of a fishing family in southern Greenland whose way of life is changing due to climate change, residents of Coober Pedy, Australia, who live underground to escape extreme heat, and a family working to restore forests in the Gobi Desert.
