■ Student Climate Activists Gathered to Respond to the Climate Crisis

U-SAVERS, a university student climate activist program, has continued since 2012 under the slogan “You Save the Earth, You Save Us.” On Friday, March 13, the launch ceremony for the 19th U-SAVERS cohort was held, marking the beginning of a new journey for the participants. U-SAVERS plans and carries out climate action projects proactively while expanding various activities in which citizens can participate together. The program also aims to bring climate issues closer to everyday life and foster changes in awareness through action-oriented activities. University students interested in responding to the climate crisis and practicing carbon neutrality gathered in one place to share the vision and direction of their upcoming activities.

■ Inspiring Climate Action Through Stories from Alumni Members

The event also featured inspiring stories and firsthand experiences shared by alumni members from previous cohorts. In particular, Kim Seunghyun, a graduate of the 17th cohort, shared her experience participating in COP29 as a youth representative of the Republic of Korea during her time with U-SAVERS. She spoke about the role of young people in the international community and the importance of climate action, while also sharing insights from global climate discussions and networking experiences with youth participants from around the world during COP29. Hwang Jinwook, a member of the 18th cohort, introduced projects he had planned and led as part of the Climate Education Team, along with his overall experience throughout the year-long program. He shared how the team worked to make climate issues more accessible and engaging for citizens, as well as the collaborative process of developing and carrying out various projects. Through these experiences, he reflected on the personal growth and meaningful lessons he gained from participating in U-SAVERS. The inspiring experiences shared by alumni members further heightened the enthusiasm and anticipation of the 19th cohort members for the activities ahead.

■ U-SAVERS 19th Cohort Begins Its Journey

Although the university students gathered from all across the country came from different majors and backgrounds, they were united by one common goal: climate action. During the networking session, members of the 19th U-SAVERS cohort introduced themselves to one another and shared their interests, previous experiences, and goals they hope to achieve over the next 10 months together. Participants discussed a wide range of shared interests, including climate education, carbon neutrality, ESG, and climate finance, which helped build a strong sense of connection among the group. By listening to one another’s stories, they exchanged diverse perspectives and thoughts on the climate crisis while strengthening their commitment to future climate action together.
