On December 9, Jai Chul CHOI, Chairman of the Climate Change Center, attended a donation ceremony with renowned Korean artist Lim Moo-Sang, whose work has long reflected the emotional and ecological symbolism of Korea’s natural landscape. The meeting explored the potential of art as a medium for deepening public engagement with the climate crisis.

Artist Lim donated two paintings—Juhulsan under Moonlight and Scenes from Joryeong—to the Climate Change Center. The works are now permanently displayed in the Chairman’s Office and will serve as a symbolic asset of the Center, conveying messages of climate awareness and reflection to distinguished guests and visitors.

Recurring motifs in Lim’s work, including mountains, pine trees, and the moon, represent core elements of Korea’s natural heritage and collective memory. In the context of the climate crisis, these symbols take on renewed significance, inviting reflection on the present condition of nature and the urgent need for its protection and restoration.

During the accompanying tea gathering, Chairman CHOI emphasized that “the climate crisis cannot be fully conveyed through the language of science and policy alone,” adding that “art plays a vital role in enabling people to intuitively grasp the essence of the climate challenge through their senses and emotions.” He further noted that Lim’s works encourage viewers to see nature not as a static backdrop, but as a shared responsibility that must be actively safeguarded.

Building on this donation, the Climate Change Center plans to expand culture- and arts-based approaches to climate communication by utilizing its spaces and linking exhibitions with major programs, including anniversary events and appreciation gatherings for supporters, in order to broaden public resonance and understanding of climate action.
