[Activity] CHOI Jai-chul, Chairman of the Climate Change Center, Highlights Regional Carbon Neutrality Implementation at ‘Climate Environment Activists’ Day’ > 게시글

On September 30, CHOI Jai-chul attended the “Climate Environment Activists’ Day” hosted by Shinhan University, where he emphasized the importance of region-centered carbon neutrality actions and the establishment of strong cooperation frameworks. The event, co-organized by Shinhan University, Uijeongbu City, and the Climate Change Center, brought together more than 300 students and citizens committed to advancing carbon neutrality in the northern Gyeonggi region.

In his keynote address, Chairman CHOI underscored that “carbon neutrality can only be achieved when the driving force of national policy is effectively linked to regional implementation capacity.” He highlighted that collaboration among universities, local governments, and expert institutions forms a critical foundation for implementing the 2035 NDC. He also stressed the role of young regional activists and the need for data-driven mitigation efforts, expanded civic participation, and the development of localized climate solutions.

During the event, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Shinhan University, the Climate Change Center, and the Uijeongbu Carbon Neutrality Support Center. Chairman CHOI remarked that “this agreement marks an important starting point for nurturing carbon neutrality activists and expanding field-based climate response models in the northern Gyeonggi region.” He further stated that the Climate Change Center will continue supporting regional climate leadership and engaging youth and citizens to strengthen on-the-ground implementation of climate actions.
