On September 29, the Climate Change Center (Chairman Jai-Chul Choi) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Eunpyeong Cultural Foundation (CEO Jang Woo-yoon) to promote the exchange of climate-related cultural content and establish a sustainable framework for cooperation. This agreement marks a significant step toward building a community-based climate action model that integrates culture and citizen participation.

At the signing ceremony, Chairman Choi emphasized that “climate action requires not only scientific solutions and policies, but also the cultural power that moves people’s lives and emotions.” He further highlighted that the agreement would serve as a platform for “creating a new model of climate response that combines local culture with citizen engagement,” stressing the importance of expanding citizen-driven climate action through cultural and artistic channels as a vital pathway for raising awareness and promoting practical action.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will jointly pursue initiatives including: ▲ expanding climate response through artistic practices, ▲ increasing opportunities for artists’ involvement and citizen-participatory programs, ▲ advancing cultural and arts education that supports ESG practices in local communities, and ▲ collaborating on the promotion and outreach of citizen-led climate art activities. In particular, the upcoming Eunpyeong Nuri Festival in October will feature a joint program that allows citizens to directly participate in hands-on climate action, where the Climate Change Center aims to showcase a tangible model of citizen-driven climate practices.

This partnership underscores the Center’s commitment to advancing climate action beyond science and policy, by incorporating culture and everyday citizen experience. Moving forward, the Climate Change Center will continue to expand climate cooperation through diverse partnerships, transforming climate response into a shared cultural and civic experience.
